Touring all over Europe in support of their latest release "Eidolon", New Brunswick's ECMA nominees and Music NB award winning doom duo ZAUM announce they will be trekking across their home country of Canada for the month of August with support from Pembroke, ON crusty metal punk two piece Flying Fortress featuring Brandon Wars (Goat Horn, Zuku) vocals/bass and Steelrider (Goat Horn, Cauldron) drums. The tour will be kicking off on August 3rd in Ottawa and head west for it to wrap up in the east on August 22nd in Sudbury, ON (dates listed below).

The band comments:

“It has been a couple of years since we’ve toured within our home country as we’ve primarily focused our efforts overseas since our formation in 2014.  Needless to say, we’re super stoked for this summer adventure across this giant beauty of a country in support of our newest record Eidolon. We were actually just fresh back from our showcase at Roadburn 2017 (with the likes of Baroness and Chelsea Wolfe) and thought, there’s really no better Canadian band and dudes to do a Canadian tour with than our old buds in Flying Fortress – and luckily the stars have aligned in our favour.”

ZAUM’s second and latest full length musical chapter “Eidolon” was released October 24, 2016 via I HATE Records with distribution via Plastic Head/Sony Music throughout Europe and Century Media in North America to follow their 2014 debut album "Oracles". In their three years as an active touring band ZAUM have amassed 200+ shows (mainly international) under their belts including support stints for Voivod, Pentagram, and Cauldron.

ZAUM is a passage toward the dark realizations of the old world; a monolithic doomy mantra based meditative experience forged by bass and drums interwoven with sitar, woodwind, string and synth textures. Based in New Brunswick, Canada – observers experience a tranquil resonance whereby the astral and physical planes can co-exist and be understood from a natural perspective.

ZAUM is:
Kyle Alexander McDonald (bass/vocal/synth/textures)
Christopher Lewis (drums/percussion)

“ZAUM blends several moods into a really attractive, cohesive work that not only pays off, but also distances them from Om, creating for themselves a sphere of their own.”  -Sputnik Music

“a new level of headphone-ready, open-consciousness expanse.  Nothing matters. Give up your expectations. Quit your job and move to the forest.  Build a temple by a river and spend your days naming the gods who live in the trees around you.” -The Obelisk

“Their sound encompasses the enormity of the likes of Sleep and Om, yet works in a mysticism that’s haunting and ethereal. The 40 minute span of this release is a sitar driven daydream that carries the gravitational force of tectonic plates shifting.” -Iron Fist

“Hold onto your bong, ponder those scraps of eastern philosophy you’ve picked up watching Kung Fu films from the 1970s, and prepare to escape from Samsara.” -Ave Noctum

“Consists of dread and a haunting sensation to glimmers of hope, but mostly dreadful darkness.  ZAUM cast their own dark shadow, one I don’t mind being consumed by.” – Bucketlist Music Review (10/10)

“Few bands can touch the New Brunswick doom duo in terms of sheer hypnotic atmosphere. Eidolon sees them go further down their singular path into the heavy unknown. Prepare to be transported to a higher realm.” -The Sludgelord

“Simply put, ZAUM is an 11/10. To my fellow people: go home and lay down.”- Don L’Orange, -Weird Canada

Pain Tank - 97,901,726 Confirmed Kills

I so welcome Pain Tank to the world. They're kind of picking up the pieces from the magnificent Palkoski/The Seventh Gate, who sadly are no more. Extending the heritage of these two juggernauts and creating a natural continuation of what they did. Therefore Pain Tank’s compositions lets the music move along a new path, a new avenue, for this crazy amalgamation of grindcore, death metal and metal.

What spews out on this album is disharmonic yet harmonious mayhem; pounding, brutal and in-yer-face. Dealing with pain, suffering, depravity, killing and murder, there is no other way to portray the atrocities Pain Tank sings about. It has to be short, sharp and full of shock. And these degenerates have all this in abundance. While claustrophobia runs ragged, everything is intense and skull crushing aided by fantastic buzzsaw riffing. Kerchner’s furious fucked up singing add layer upon layer of the insanity already on display and propels the listener into the vortex of mania 97,901,726 unleashes.

During the 13 songs, which clocks in at just over 21 minutes, the themes mentioned earlier comes out in stories about war, street fighting, police brutality, a police state and man’s incurable desire for destruction…all in the name of corporate greed. Worldwide corporate business is funded/fueled by evil and war, so naturally global warfare is always going to be here. At the cost of the little man, of you and me and of Mother Earth. Total destruction!

Pain Tank are on point with their debut. Brutalities of war is not new but it is getting more elaborate and sinister. And it has moved away from country conquering country to corporation raping anyone they can in the name of a nickel. Business profit supersedes individuality meaning everyone, but a very few, are expendable. And Pain Tank brings this out with such ease. A fantastic debut by a force to be reckoned with, so take heed dear waveriders, and listen to what they say.

"cleaves the Earth in two" - NPR
"full of powerful walls of noise as heavy as they are entrancing" - Consequence of Sound
“…evolved in ways most only dream of doing and their expansive catalog has always pushed the boundaries of what people would consider possible in metal…” - Metal Sucks

Long-running Japanese power trio Boris are preparing for the release of their twenty-third studio album Dear on July 14th (Sargent House). Today, the legendary amplifier worshippers have unveiled the album’s second single, “Memento Mori,” which juxtaposes deluges of fuzz with hints of ethereal dream pop in ways only Boris can.  Listen to the track on Consequence of Sound (or directly on Soundcloud) now.

Following the release of Dear, Boris will traverse the United States on an extensive headline tour that will feature Endon (Japan) on the tour’s entirety, as well as support from Sumac, Subrosa, Helms Alee, Mutoid Man, Thou and Torche in select territories.  Check out the expansive tour routing, which runs throughout October and November and includes performances at Desert Daze (Joshua Tree, CA) and Sound on Sound (Austin, TX) festivals, below.

Dear marks Boris’ 25th year of existence and while the 10-track album is chockfull of early-Boris calling cards, the avant-garde mavens aren’t learning on old tricks, describing the album as “heavenly—far beyond heavy.”  Though Boris have crisscrossed a broad swath of sonic territories, they have always been consistently embraced the excess, pushing their myriad of approaches and stylistic forays to points of intoxicating absurdity. Eventually the band reached a crossroads in the early years of their third decade together, leaving them wondering if there were any new horizons left to explore. The renewed vitality yielded an album that fortifies their monolithic wall of sound while also allowing the individual band members to explore the nuances and intricacies of minimalist riffs played at maximum volume.  Songwriting for Dear initially yielded three albums’ worth of material by the end of 2015, but as the band was slated to spend a large chunk of 2016 on their “Performing Pink” worldwide tour, they decided to hold off on releasing any new material. The tour further rekindled their passion for the craft, spurring the band to return home to crank out even more new material while scaling down three records’ worth of sonic deluge down to one.

Dear will be released to the world on July 14, 2017 on CD, 2xLP, and digital formats and is available for pre-order from iTunes and HelloMerch.

The Atomic Bitchwax to Launch North American Headlining Tour July 13

New Jersey super stoner rock band THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX will kick off a North American headlining tour run on July 13 in Boston, MA. Featuring core MONSTER MAGNET members Chris Kosnik (bass, vocals) and Bob Pantella (drums) alongside guitarist Finn Ryan, THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX (aka TAB) play music that combines 60's psychedelic rock, and 70's riff rock with modern day progressive rock influences. The Tee Pee Records-powered tour will run through July 23 and feature support from NYC space rockers and TAB label mates MIRROR QUEEN.

Since its formation in 1993, THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX has inspired hundreds of developing rock and metal bands, but no group of musicians has come close to matching TAB's unique style of fun, frenetic and formidable rock and roll. Over the course of six full-length albums and multiple world tours, the band has perfected its unique style of NYC hard rock that High Times appropriately tagged, "thunder-boogie". THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX is currently prepping the follow-up to its celebrated 2016 release, Gravitron. A fall release date is expected.

July 13     Boston, MA           Great Scott
July 14     Montreal, QC         Turbo Haus
July 15     Toronto, ON           Hard Luck
    July 16     Pittsburgh, PA        Cattivo
    July 18     Asheville, NC          Mothlight
July 19     Atlanta, GA             Star Bar
July 20     Richmond, VA        Strange Matter
July 22     Philadelphia, PA    Kung Fu Necktie
July 23     Brooklyn, NY          Knitting Factory

A mainstay in the NYC hard rock scene, MIRROR QUEEN has shared the stage with heavyweight peers such as Earthless and The Shrine and toured Europe with legends such as Uli Jon Roth and UFO. The group's driving music accelerates at the distinct point where NWOBHM and heavy Prog Rock intersect; a direct and definite delineation of an era when urgent metallic sound was the order of the day. MIRROR QUEEN's as-yet-untitled new LP is expected to see release this October.

"The Atomic Bitchwax work in the middle ground between amp-worshipping noise rock and the desert-fed stoner metal scene that produced Kyuss and Fu Manchu (the band shares two members with Monster Magnet, if that tells you anything), but the group’s also hosted a guest solo from Warren Haynes, founder of Gov’t Mule and former member of The Allman Brothers. In other words The Atomic Bitchwax put Dave Wyndorf within six degrees of separation of Wilson Pickett and I hope they’re proud of themselves." - INVISIBLE ORANGES

“gargantuan riffs and jaw-dropping psych sonics....required listening for any heavy-metal of the heaviest and grooviest stoner metal bands to plug in and turn it up.” - SAN DIEGO READER

Winter Calling - Faces

Formed in Florida in 2013, the band began as a side project between Wayne Hoefle (percussion, piano, and keys), who was composing film scores at the time, and guitarist Ian Medhurst who was touring with national recording artist John Wesley. They soon recruited Texas-bred bassist Tim Gilbreath, and finally to Los Angeles-based vocalist Chris Hodges. They have released two albums and some new videos for their latest album Faces.

This progressive metal band has a powerful sound that I couldn’t get enough of and had to listen to “Not Like You” over and over again. The song is tight, full of emotion and vocals so strong, Superman couldn’t stop them if he tried his best. Chock full of energy and a chorus that got stuck in my head, I listened to the song at least four times before continuing. “Follow Me Down” has more subtle moments in it, a quieter moment here and there, but not wimping out, just not as in your face, and is another amazing track that makes you amazed at the talent in this band and the ability to create such blistering sounds. “A New Me, A Few Me” has whispered vocals mixed in with growling, angry vocals and it adds a sense of menace to the song that carries onto the music which is played both heavy and more subtle in parts. The song has a creepiness to it that is both scary and sends the hairs on your arms on end with the beauty of it. The whole album is great with so many songs that are sure to become favorites, but these are the ones with videos out and ones that you would be able to listen to first and get an idea of the album, which is a treat to listen to.

This band just became one that I will be playing in my car over and over again, especially now that the weather is nice, I will be rolling down the windows and cranking this up loud. I suggest that you grab a copy and do the same.

-Rick Ecker

The Melvins "A Walk with Love & Death" (July 7 release; Tour date near you)

The Melvins return with a double album, A Walk With Love and Death, on July 7 via Ipecac Recordings.

The dual albums find the trio of Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover and Steve McDonald showcasing two distinct sides to the band’s music: Death, a proper Melvins’ release, and Love, the score to the Jesse Nieminen directed, self-produced short also titled A Walk With Love and Death. A release date for the short has not been announced yet but a trailer has been made available:

“This was a huge undertaking,” explained band ringleader Buzz Osborne. “All three things: the album, the soundtrack and the film are benchmarks for us.”

Drummer Dale Crover added, “A Walk With Love and Death is one giant, dark, moody, psychotic head trip! Not for the faint of heart. You'll sleep with the lights on after listening.”

The albums, which include guests Joey Santiago (The Pixies), Teri Gender Bender (Le Butcherettes/Crystal Fairy) and Anna Waronker (That Dog), were co-produced with Toshi Kosai.

RADIO MOSCOW new album “New Beginnings” + European tour in Sept/Oct. 2017
Southern Californian rock trio RADIO MOSCOW are currently putting finishing touches on their much-anticipated fifth studio album, “New Beginnings”, which is set for release via Century Media Records on September 29, 2017.

Right on time with the release of their new opus, the band has confirmed the “The Drifting Tour”, which will drown Europe from September 26 to October 31 in waves of fuzzy, hard rocking riffs and sweaty, cranked up blues!

Formed in 2003, the power trio led by Stratocaster genius Parker Griggs carved their own sonic niche fusing crunching, heavy Sabbath-style chords with fiery ‘Hendrixian’ solos and a raw intensity that is addictive and captivating. From the self-titled debut back in 2007, which was produced by Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, over to last year’s “Live! In California”, RADIO MOSCOW proved to be not just a cheap time machine but a direct descendant from the golden age of rock ‘n’ roll!

Known as a tremendous live act, Parker Griggs (vocals, guitar), Anthony Meier (bass) and Paul Marrone (drums) have hit the road hard in the U.S. and in Europe in past years, touring with the likes of Graveyard, Witchcraft, Joe Bonamassa and Pentagram as well as playing festivals such as Desert Daze (US), the Void Fest (Ger), Electric Funeral (US), Burg Herzberg Fest (Ger), and the Orbital Festival in Santiago, Chile, to name but a few.

Now, RADIO MOSCOW are gearing up for an exciting new chapter in their career with the release of “New Beginnings” and have kicked off another massive touring cycle with a US mini-tour, selected European festivals in August, and a full European tour in September/October. Even more chances to see the band live are currently in the works!
